Congratulations to the 12s on a great start to their season and good luck the rest of this weekend! GO SHOCKWAVE!

Illinois Shockwave hopes everyone had a very Merry Christmas and that those who are on break from school are enjoying a little R&R now. A break is always nice, but we also look forward to getting back to work in the new year. We’d like to thank all our wonderful sponsors whose donations are helping to fund our indoor training over the winter months. Illinois Shockwave players will continue to train hard with an eye to making the 2016 season a great one! In the meantime, hope everyone enjoys the rest of their holiday season!
Illinois Shockwave 12U and 16U players gathered at The Container Store in Northbrook to bring in donations for the “Holiday Hugs” program on Sunday, November 29, 2015. The Container Store will fill “Holiday Hug Sacks” with the donations they receive and deliver them to patients at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago next month. Our players had fun collecting a wide array of new toys and books to donate, including some softball-themed gifts (maybe we can entice some little girls to take up softball when they get well!). Among donations were three dozen “Soft Hit” softballs and the company donated an extra dozen toward the effort.
The Container Store provided players and parents with hot cider and cookies and demonstrated some wrapping techniques, including showing how to make some really pretty bows. Each player got to try their hand at bow-making, some more successfully than others (there are always pre-made bows, right?!). Big thanks to The Container Store for the demonstrations, hospitality and the opportunity to contribute to a worthwhile cause. Big thanks also to the Shockwave families who contributed and to Soft Hit for their contribution. It is all so very much appreciated! Anyone interested in donating to The Container Store’s “Holiday Hugs” program has until December 15th to do so (please click the “Holiday Hugs” link for details).
Shockwave 12U played a round robin in Libertyville on Sunday, September 13th, going 3-0 for the day. The team defeated Windy City Thunder-B (17-3), Athletic Barn (12-3) and Libertyville Wildcats (17-5). They followed up their strong showing with another win the following day, winning 11-5 against the Chicago Fireworks. The team’s record currently stands at 4-2.
Shockwave 14U showed their stuff in their first official games of the season in Skokie on Saturday, September 12th, defeating Mudcats (21-0) and Windy City Rage (14-0). The team jumped on their opponents early, establishing big leads and denying any offensive gains. 14U’s current record stands at 2-0.
Shockwave 16U also played their first official games of the season on Saturday, September 12th at a McHenry Heatwave round robin in Woodstock. A few “hiccups” in the first game versus Fox Valley Renegades resulted in a 9-7 loss, but the team refocused and won their next two games against Cary Crush (12-1) and Libertyville Cats Elite (12-0). 16U’s record currently stands at 2-1.
Illinois Shockwave is fielding three teams this 2015/16 season: 12U, 14U and 16U. Coaches Liberty and Stark’s 12U team is first out of the shoot, having met up with Elk Grove Heat for a double-header on Sunday, August 30 in Elk Grove. Coach Christine’s 14U and Coach Maddy’s 16U both will play their first games on September 12 and have been practicing hard in preparation.
The Shockwave Board is working on making some adjustments to the organization as a whole, not only to accommodate the two extra teams we have added, but to ensure that all teams and players thrive this upcoming season. Big thanks to all who believed in Shockwave’s ability to provide a great fastpitch softball program for local girls–we won’t let you down! It’s going to be a great season!
