After taking a break over the Fourth of July weekend, the 12U Shockwave were back to their winning ways, taking 2nd place in the 16-team Palatine Stingray Showdown on July 7-10. The team went 3-0 in pool play to earn the 2nd seed, defeating the Elmhurst Emeralds by a score of 8-2, the Vernon Hills Stingers by a score of 5-0 and the Arlington Redbirds by a score of 15-0. Of special note was Lauren C’s return to the mound as a starter and pitching a complete game shutout.
On an absolutely gorgeous day for bracket play, the 12U Shockwave started things off with a 12-2 victory against Windy City Thunder 12U to advance to the semi-finals. The girls then squared off against Rage Fastpitch 12U (from Beloit, WI), winning a tight game by a final score of 5-2. The girls met the Elk Grove Heat Black in the championship game. After falling behind 5-0 in the first inning, the girls showed some great fight to make it a game, but ended up taking second place, losing 8-4 in 7 innings. In 7 tournaments played this years, the 12U Shockwave have been in 6 championship games, including winning 2 championships. The team’s record is 37-13 for the season.
Shockwave 12U emerged victorious at this year’s Glenview Titans Fastpitch Thunderbolt Classic, going the entire weekend (June 10-12, 2016) undefeated and besting the McHenry Jr. Warriors in the championship round 12-4. The team has racked up an impressive 28-6 record so far this season with two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes in the four tournaments they have participated in to this point. See a little swagger in this pic? They’ve earned it! This weekend 12U will be playing in the Trevian’s Father’s Day Classic.
Shockwave 14U has also racked up an impressive record so far this season: 18-1. That one loss was to Warren Wave Silver and gleaned a second-place finish for our 14U at the GTFA Thunderbolt Classic. The team also has two championships under its belt, one in Evanston and one in Kankakee (picture at left). 14U continues to work hard and is heading down to Peoria, Illinois this weekend for their fourth tournament of the season.
Shockwave 16U participated in their first tournament of the travel season last weekend at the Schaumburg Sluggers Summer Spectacular. Undefeated in pool play on Friday night, they were the number one seed from their pool going into double elimination rounds on Saturday. A loss to Midland Magic sent them into the losers bracket to face Libertyville Elite. A win against Libertyville advanced them to a match-up with Roselle Rockers Purple, but Shockwave fell in that game and went home for good. 16U is off this weekend, but will be playing in a super regional in Elgin, Illinois on June 24-26.
Good luck to all our teams in their upcoming games! #GoShockwave #LikeAGlenviewGirl
Illinois Shockwave had a great weekend in Evanston at the Evanston Express Memorial Day Classic tournament. 14U won the championship in their division for the second year in a row and 12U came in second place in their division with a very well-played final round.
14U went undefeated in three games of pool play and were the first seed going into the playoffs on Sunday. First they played Vernon Hills and won 12-0 in three innings. They then went on to the semi-finals to face Sauganash Storm and won 14-2, also in three innings. This advanced them to the championship game pitting them against Windy City Thunder. Shockwave took an early lead but the Windy City Thunder had a big third inning to pull ahead 4-3. In the fifth inning, Shockwave scored 2 more runs, but a sixth inning rally added six more runs to the team’s total, which resulted in a big win. The final score was 11-4. 14U went the entire weekend undefeated. It was truly a team effort with everyone’s contributions. Way to go, 14U!
12U went 2-1 in pool play, winning 20-6 against Sauganash Storm Silver and 10-1 against Lincoln Way Storm. They suffered an 8-3 loss to Windy City Thunder. In Sunday’s elimination rounds, the team beat Sauganash Storm Black (11-1) and Vernon Hills Stingers (12-0) to advance to the championship round, in which they ultimately fell to the Windy City Thunder in a close game (2-1). A 12U parent commented that “despite the 2-1 loss leading to our 2nd place finish, it sure felt like the best played game of the year, capping off a great weekend of softball.” With two second-place finishes and a championship under their belt this early in the season, 2016 is shaping up to be an awesome year for the 12s. Congrats!
On Saturday, May 21, Shockwave 12U traveled to Merrillville, IN to participate in the NSA Hidden Lake Summer Kick-Off. The team played all day, first game starting at 10:30am and the last game starting at 7:30pm, going 4-1. Facing the NWI Wolfpack in the championship round (the only team they had lost to earlier in the day by a score of 4-2), 12U showed the strength of their endurance with a 13-0 shut out to clinch 1st place. Congratulations to Illinois Shockwave 12U on yet another day of spectacular play! GO SHOCKWAVE! #LikeAGlenviewGirl
Illinois Shockwave 12U started their tournament season with a second-place win at the Roselle Rockers 5th Annual Spring Swing Softball Tournament in Roselle on May 14th and May 15th. The team earned a 3rd seed after going undefeated in pool play on Saturday defeating Stone City Sharks (8-6) and Lockport Pride (12-5). The team returned for single elimination play on Sunday to face Downer’s Grove Rebels in the first round (10-0) moving on to face Naperville Diamonds in the second round (9-4). That win advanced Illinois Shockwave to the semi-finals where they defeated Yorkville (7-1). In the championship round, Illinois Shockwave faced the home team, the Roselle Rockers. Despite outhitting the Rockers 12 to 9, Illinois Shockwave lost 8-4 in seven innings. Coach KC Liberty, Coach Greg Kapsimalis and Coach Rocky Sapienza were very happy with the team’s performance and are looking forward to a great season. Congrats to 12U on such a strong start! #LikeAGlenviewGirl
