Although forecasters say the next few days of Chicago area weather will be full of rain, the past week or so has afforded some beautiful softball weather. Illinois Shockwave high schoolers continue to have an impact on their school teams as the season continues to play out. Perhaps most notably, 15u’s Brianna Luciano (sophomore pitcher for Hersey High School, 9-4) hit her very first career home run on Tuesday, April 25 against St. Viator High School. Congratulations, Bri! You can find more info in the Daily Herald.
Another notable was a Regina Dominican win over Loyola Academy, 6-4; it’s the first time Regina has prevailed over Loyola in this decade. Congratulations to Becca Richards (Shockwave 16u) on the winning side and a “Get ’em next time!” to Anna Rempe and Cassie Rodgers (Shockwave 15u) on the Loyola side. You can read more details about the game in the Glenview Lantern.
Last week Shockwave 16u players faced each other in a game pitting Glenbrook South against Niles North in conference play. Representing GBS were Shockwave 16u’s Sophie Stark, Megan Chin, Mia Swanson and Julia Bass and Shockwave 15u’s Lauren Olsen, and representing Niles North was Adriana Oh. GBS beat Niles North 9-1 at home and the teams are scheduled to face each other again on Tuesday, May 9 at Niles North.
Last weekend Glenbrook South Varsity also participated in a tournament at Rolling Meadows High School, going 1-2 for the weekend in non-conference play. In their final game, Whitney Young (2-1 that weekend) dealt them a 14-4 loss. This game brought Shockwave 16u’s Stark, Chin, Swanson and Bass and 15u’s Olsen (GBS) up against Shockwave 15u’s Grace and Lauren Mosele (WY). Congrats to the Mosele sisters who are tearing it up in their first high school season!
While the high schoolers are busy with their school teams, our younger Shockwave teams have also been getting to work. On Saturday, April 22 Coach Greg Kapsimalis’ 14u team defeated Palatine Stingrays 5-4, but then dropped a game on Sunday, April 23 to Midwest Machine 9-3. The team also had fun watching Northwestern beat Purdue 6-3 at Sharon J. Drysdale Field in Evanston on that same Sunday afternoon. You can read about Northwestern’s sweep of Purdue here.
Winning or losing, *this* is the best time of year with non-stop softball happening all around us! Hope you are getting the chance to enjoy it and best of luck to *all* our Shockwave players, whether playing for their schools or for Shockwave. Play hard!
