High school action for Shockwave players no April Fool

On Saturday, April 1 temps made it into the 50s in Chicagoland and the sun shone brightly. Perfect softball weather! Among the games being played was a match-up between Hersey High School (Arlington Heights, IL) and Glenbrook South High School (Glenview, IL) at Glenbrook South. Starting pitcher for Hersey was Shockwave 15u’s Brianna Luciano. On the GBS side, Shockwave 16u’s Sophie Stark started at short, Megan Chin started in left field and Julia Bass started at third. It was a tight game, but Hersey ended up on top with a 4-2 final.

Also playing on April 1 was Brianna’s 15u Shockwave teammate Alana Lapitan. Starting pitcher for Saint Ignatius College Prep, Lapitan threw a shutout against Back of the Yards College Prep, leading her team to a 12-0 victory. She allowed just one hit in the game played at her school’s home field. Congratulations to Alana!

You can read more about the GBS v Hersey game here (scroll to bottom paragraphs of article). Season previews are available here and here. You can also check out GBS Softball’s web site, Hersey Softball’s web site and St. Ignatius Softball’s web site. Hopefully the weather will continue to cooperate and we’ll be watching some good ball playing. With Shockwave players also representing varsity teams at Loyola Academy (15u’s Anna Rempe and Cassie Rodgers), Regina Dominican (16u’s Becca Richards), Niles North (16u’s Adriana Oh), Deerfield High School (15u’s Halle Mangurten), Northside College Prep (16u’s Maddy Schoeff and Erin Franke), Whitney Young High School (15u’s Grace and Lauren Mosele), and Leyden High School (15u’s Elle Engelke), there will be a lot to watch.

We will continue to report on our high school players this spring season, but are also looking forward to our younger teams coming out of indoor off-season practices and getting back out on the fields!
