Shockwave kicks off the holiday season with “Holiday Hugs”

Shockwave 12U and 16U

Illinois Shockwave 12U and 16U players gathered at The Container Store in Northbrook to bring in donations for the “Holiday Hugs” program on Sunday, November 29, 2015.  The Container Store will fill “Holiday Hug Sacks” with the donations they receive and deliver them to patients at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago next month.  Our players had fun collecting a wide array of new toys and books to donate, including some softball-themed gifts (maybe we can entice some little girls to take up softball when they get well!).  Among donations were three dozen “Soft Hit” softballs and the company donated an extra dozen toward the effort.

The Container Store provided players and parents with hot cider and cookies and demonstrated some wrapping techniques, including showing how to make some really pretty bows.  Each player got to try their hand at bow-making, some more successfully than others (there are always pre-made bows, right?!).  Big thanks to The Container Store for the demonstrations, hospitality and the opportunity to contribute to a worthwhile cause.  Big thanks also to the Shockwave families who contributed and to Soft Hit for their contribution.  It is all so very much appreciated!  Anyone interested in donating to The Container Store’s “Holiday Hugs” program has until December 15th to do so (please click the “Holiday Hugs” link for details).

Always a good sport, 12U’s Coach Kc attempts to make a bow.

16U's Coach Maddy also gave bow-making a try.
