Saturday’s pool play at Southern Wisconsin Fastpitch’s Mothers Day Bash yielded mixed results.  Shockwave won their first game 8-1, lost the second game 9-4 and won the final game 6-3 (it had been a tie at 7-7, but was called for time and reverted to the previous inning’s score since they weren’t allowed to finish the inning they were in).  The highlights of pool play games included a home run by Cassie and a pop-up catch made by Julia in the first game of pool play.  Saturday’s performance placed Shockwave as the 5th seed heading into double elimination rounds early Sunday morning and the weather was cold (48 degrees as the team warmed up at 7 a.m.) and rainy. The temperature never got out of the 50s. The team won their first game of elimination play vs. McHenry County Heatwave (7-5). The next two games were disappointing losses, each time losing by only one run to Crystal Lake Slam (3-2) and McHenry County Heatwave (7-6; yes, we played them a second time).  The highlight of the elimination rounds was a double play made by Lauren O.  The no-hesitation rocket she sent to Lauren M. at third was a beautiful thing to watch unfold.  Just awesome!  In addition to making some great plays, the girls also continue to learn from mistakes and we’re confident that as we progress through the season, they’ll just get better and better.  In the mean time, there was a lot of good softball being played and the team enjoyed the weekend.  The team is looking forward to the upcoming Evanston Memorial Day Classic weekend after next.  GO SHOCKWAVE!
